About the ministry
What is Orphans and Widows International?+
Orphans and Widows International is a Christ-centered nonprofit ministry devoted to sharing the love of Jesus through compassionate care. The ministry helps meet practical needs, strengthens local churches, distributes Bibles, and provides biblical instruction with dignity and accountability.
Where does the ministry serve?+
Uganda is the ministry’s primary mission field and remains at the heart of its work. When urgent needs arise elsewhere, the ministry may also respond through prayerful, trusted Christian partnerships around the world.
What kinds of help does the ministry provide?+
Ministry outreach includes food security, clean drinking water, clothing, school uniforms, free primary education, shelter and room needs, Bibles, basic medical support, Christian counseling and instruction, discipleship, church planting, Bible distribution, pastoral encouragement, and other compassionate help as resources and trusted opportunities allow.
How does the ministry support children’s education and daily needs?+
Faithful donations help make free primary education available and provide school uniforms, food, clothing, safer access to clean drinking water, shelter or room support, basic medical care, and Christ-centered counseling. Assistance depends on available resources and needs identified through trusted local ministry relationships.
How does the ministry support churches and Bible distribution?+
The ministry supports faithful local church planting, equips pastors and ministry leaders as resources allow, and places Bibles into the hands of families, new believers, and local congregations so they can grow in God’s Word.
Where can I find verified ministry stories?+
Read the Stories page for ministry-reviewed accounts. Contact leadership for historical details that have not been published.
Can I read or search the Bible on this website?+
Yes. The Scripture page lets you search published translations in modern English, the King James Version, Spanish, Kiswahili, and Luganda. NKJV and NASB are available through an authorized reader and can be displayed in-site once the ministry’s licensed Bible provider is connected. Choose the language and translation first, then enter a reference using the book name in that language.
Does the website use AI or automatic translation to rewrite Bible verses?+
No. Scripture text is returned from an identified, published Bible translation with its copyright or license notice. The website does not ask its support assistant or a machine translator to rewrite Bible text. This protects accuracy and makes the source of every displayed passage clear.
Is there a website tour for new visitors?+
Yes. First-time visitors are offered an optional guided tour of the mission, impact areas, Bible reader, giving, volunteer process, merchandise, contact options, FAQ, and support assistant. Choose Site tour in the header or New visitor tour in the footer to restart it at any time.
Giving
How can I learn what my gift will support?+
Ask leadership about current needs and verified gift-impact estimates. Only approved active funds appear on the Give page. No specific amount guarantees a fixed package of care.
Can I make a one-time or monthly donation?+
Yes. The giving area is designed for both one-time gifts and recurring monthly partnership. Once the ministry president connects the approved provider, visitors choose the available giving frequency on this website and then choose or confirm the amount on that provider’s secure hosted checkout.
Can I give an amount that is not listed?+
The website does not collect an amount directly. When the ministry’s approved hosted checkout is connected, the payment provider may offer an other-amount option. Available amounts and limits are controlled on that secure provider page.
Do donations help support missionaries while they are serving?+
Yes. General gifts may help support approved missionaries with responsible field expenses such as travel, local transportation, lodging, meals, communication, ministry supplies, Bibles, and teaching resources as leadership identifies needs and funds are available. Contact the ministry before giving if you hope to designate a gift for a particular missionary or project.
Is my payment or bank information stored on this website?+
This website does not collect or store full payment-card numbers, security codes, donor routing numbers, or donor bank-account numbers. Donations open on a Truist-approved hosted payment provider. The ministry president’s private payout card stores only the provider, connection status, bank name, final four account digits, and an approved provider dashboard link.
Is this website PCI compliant?+
The website is designed to keep payment entry on a PCI DSS validated hosted provider and to avoid receiving full card or donor bank-account details. That design reduces scope but does not by itself certify the ministry as PCI compliant. Before accepting gifts, the ministry must have Truist approve the exact gateway and implementation, obtain the provider’s current PCI evidence, complete the validation Truist requires, and arrange any required external vulnerability scans.
Are donations tax-deductible?+
The website does not make a tax-deductibility promise until the ministry’s current registration and tax information has been verified and published. Donors should keep their payment receipt and contact the ministry directly before relying on a gift as tax-deductible.
Volunteer and partner
How can I volunteer for outreach?+
Complete the volunteer outreach application on the Serve page. Ministry leadership will review your testimony, church home, church reference, relevant experience, and agreement with the ministry’s biblical outreach covenant before contacting you about next steps.
Why are volunteers vetted?+
Volunteers represent Christ and the ministry while serving vulnerable people. Prayerful screening helps confirm character, church accountability, safety, appropriate experience, and agreement with sound biblical principles before a person serves in outreach.
Can my church or group partner with the ministry?+
Yes. Churches and groups can pray, give, help share the ministry’s work, invite ministry leadership to speak, or discuss a carefully planned outreach partnership. Use the contact form so leadership can learn about your church and explore the right next step.
Merchandise and updates
What ministry merchandise is available?+
The current prototype lists ministry shirts for $10 and bumper stickers for $1. Submit a merchandise request on the Shop page; ministry staff will confirm sizing, availability, delivery, and payment details before the request is finalized.
How do I receive ministry updates and prayer needs?+
Use the newsletter form on the Connect page to receive occasional ministry news, prayer needs, Uganda updates, Bible distribution stories, and opportunities to help. You may ask the ministry to remove you from the list at any time.
Contact and safety
How can I contact the ministry?+
Use the contact form and verified contact information on the Connect page. Public email and telephone details will appear on the site when ministry leadership verifies them.
How does the website assistant handle doctrinal or sensitive personal questions?+
The automated assistant provides general ministry information, not pastoral counseling or judgments about individuals. Questions involving doctrine, sexuality, marriage, gender, church discipline, or sensitive personal circumstances are referred to ministry leadership for a careful, Scripture-grounded conversation. The ministry seeks to uphold biblical truth, speak the truth in love, and treat every person with dignity. The assistant will not generate insulting, shaming, or demeaning content.
Can this website provide emergency, medical, or crisis help?+
No. The website and automated assistant are not emergency, medical, legal, financial, or crisis services. If someone is in immediate danger or needs urgent care, contact the appropriate local emergency service or a qualified local professional. General ministry inquiries may be sent through the contact form.
